Welcome to Troop 641! We are a 2018 Journey to Excellence Gold Award Unit!

Welcome to the Troop 641 Web site.  Troop 641 was founded at Walker Chapel United Methodist Church 90 years ago.  The troop was re-formed after a thirty-five year hiatus through the dramatic expansion of Scouting in North Arlington and now meets at St. Peter's Episcopal Church on North Glebe Road in Arlington.  We are a Scout-led troop that values most of all fun activities and the ability to grow, but also combines mentorship from the leaders, moral development of our Scouts, service to our community, and pride in achievement and development.  All appropriately aged boys are welcome to join the Troop, and parents are expected to be active supporters of Troop activities.  If you are a member, please log in.  If not, please use the Contact Us link to find out more information or request access to the Web site to learn about our Troop and consider joining.

Troop 641 has won the Olmsted Honor Oar as Best Troop in Camp at Goshen three times!

NCAC Philmont Training Webinar: Sunday, Nov. 17 at 1:00 PM

Posted on Nov 15 2024 - 9:23pm
The NCAC’s High Adventure Committee (HAC) puts on a series of four training sessions for Philmont advisors and crew leaders.  The first of these for 2025 will be held via Zoom from 1:00 to 4:30 PM on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2024 (Sessions 2 and 3 will be held January 5 and March 23, 2025, also via Zoom).  A final session on April 5 will be outdoors, with hands-on demonstrations of some of the most relevant skills that Philmont requires.

The HAC has been providing this training for over 20 years, but it had been aimed at the crews traveling as part of an NCAC contingent.  A few years ago the HAC decided to open it up to all NCAC crews, and it was very well received.  The material has been refined over the years and is as current as we can make it (some of us were there this past summer), and the four presenters in the first session have over 30 treks between them.  The agenda for the first session is below, and the subsequent sessions will delve more deeply into other topics.

This training is aimed at crew advisors and youth crew leaders, so if you (as reservation contacts) have additional members that would benefit from these sessions, please forward this notice to them and provide me with their e-mail addresses so we can add them to the distribution list.   The link to the Zoom meeting is below, and the slides will be made available thereafter.

A couple other notes that may be of interest:
  • Openings: For those of you who might still have some openings on your crews (or know of others who would like to go), the HAC web site includes a list of NCAC crews seeking additional members, or individuals seeking a crew  (look for “Vacancies” in the first bullet).  Instructions for posting either type of request are on the list itself in the middle of the first page.  Note that you can also advertise openings on your crews through the Philmont Gateway, although obviously that has national reach.
  • Trek Selection: Again this year, Philmont will be distributing the Treks Book in early December, and the online trek selection lottery will take place in mid-January.  Accordingly, our first and second sessions include segments on trek selection.
Let me know if you have any questions.
